December 20, 2012 Naples Sunset Rotary Meeting

The December 20, 2012 Naples Sunset Rotary Meeting was called to order by President Brady Young followed by the Invocation and the Pledge of Allegiance. Following dinner President Brady discussed the latest happenings both local and in the District 6960 to update the members. Liegh Readdy of Rotary District 5030 gave us a presentation on his ongoing project which he is promoting for National to support. Following his presentation club members has a number of questions and adjournment at 8:00pm. There will be no Naples Sunset Rotary Club meeting on the 27th due to the holiday period with our next meeting on January 3, 2013.

December 13, 2012 Naples Sunset Rotary Meeting

December 13, 2012 Naples Sunset Rotary Meeting was called to order at 6:38PM by President Brady Young followed by Invocation and Pledge of Allegiance. Following dinner our guest speaker Mark Hamilton Quinn presented an excellent video on the major problem of poaching of elephants in Africa. Mark creates private guides of Adventure Safaris in Africa for the past many years. His presentation was excellent with many many questions about his African safaris adventures and more! President Brady also announced that a Board of Directors meeting will be next Thursday at 5:00PM.

December 7, 2012 Naples Sunset Rotary Christmas Party

The December 7, 2012 Naples Sunset Rotary Christmas Party was well attended and everyone enjoyed the singing, dancing and fine music and food! Both Rotary clubs had a very good time enjoying the Christmas spirit both in donating toys to needy children and spreading goodwill to all the Rotary members and their spouses. Of course our tradition of the Twelve Days of Christmas was led by our one of two charter members remaining George Leamon.

The November 29, 2012 Naples Sunset Rotary Meeting was called to order by President Brady Young followed by the Invocation and Pledge of Allegiance. After dinner President Brady updated us on all upcoming events and discussed the City Farm Day attendance of our members. Our next meeting will be our annual Christmas Party to be held on Friday December 7, 2012 at 6:00pm to 9:30PM at Lakewood Country Club. Meeting was adjourned at 8PM.

November 15, 2012 Naples Sunset Rotary Meeting

The November 15, 2012 Naples Sunset Rotary Meeting was called to order by President Brady Young followed by Invocation and the Pledge of Allegiance. After dinner President Brady discussed the latest local Rotary happenings as well as district Rotary District 6960 happenings and events. President Brady mentioned that the next regularly scheduled meeting (Thursday November 22) would be cancelled for the Thanksgiving Holiday and urged all members to attend the November 21st Farm City Event and to participate in the Naples Sunset Trolly and to contact member Herb buck for additional information and reservation. Meeting was adjourned at 8pm.

November 8, 2012 Naples Sunset Rotary Meeting

November 8, 2012 Naples Sunset Rotary meeting was called to order at 6:30 pm with the Invocation and Pledge of Allegiance led by President Brady Young. Our speakers were Valarie Bostic, Executive Director of the Immokalee Child Care Center and Tom Maiale, Vice Presidemt Immokalee Child Care Center Board of Directors. The Immokalee Child Care Center has been in existence for almost 50 years and has a solid, long lasting reputation in the community for continually providing quality early childhood education and child care while working cooperatively with staff and families to inspire the children they serve to reach their full potential. October 25, 2012 Naples Sunset Rotary Club

October 25, 2012 Naples Sunset Rotary Club was called to order by President Brady Young at 6:30pm followed by Invocation and Pledge of Allegiance. Following dinner we inducted our newest member to the club Charles Zachary Van Meter who was sponsored by Past President Marcus Zillman. Following the induction, President Brady presented our latest fundraiser with bidding to have all members heads shaved through club members bidding. This event proved to be very exciting and raised dollars to help our upcoming November 3, 2012 fishing tournament boat entry donation. Following this our program was introduced by President Elect Adoni Kokkinos featuring John Slaby, Director of Operation of Kowiachobee Animal Preserve in Naples. John stated that the Kowiachobee Animal preserve houses over 75 animals, including a tiger, leopards, jaguar, puma, bobcat, caracal, tortoise, iguana, wallaby, skunks, birds, farm animals, domestic animals and much more. Kowiachobee is dedicated to respecting all animals. Their focus includes endangered, exotic, both domestic and farm animals and even reptiles. Our speaker was Naples Sunset Rotary President Elect Adoni Kokkinos who delivered an excellent presentation on the recent happenings in Libya with a detailed timeline of the latest events. After dinner including general social conversation President Brady reviewed the latest club happenings as well as happenings across the District 6960. It also was announced that our Dictionary Day was October 26, 2012 with the same two elementary schools as last year. President Brady also announced that here would be a Naples Sunset Rotary Board Meeting at 5:00pm October 11th prior to our regularly scheduled meeting. The September 27, 2012 Naples Sunset Rotary Club was called to order by President Brady Young followed by Invocation and Pledge of Allegiance. The speaker, Kathie Kern, was introduced by Past Assistant Governor and Past President Marcus Zillman. Kathie is the founder, creator, and artist of Stork Express Nursery aad has been reborning babies for over 8 years. Her truly life like babies have been extremely well received throughout the area as well national and international. She explained the hours of work to create and her experiences as to how people have reacted to them! Additional information including baby pictures are available by clicking here. September 13, 2012 Naples Sunset Rotary Meeting was called to order at 6:30pm by Past President Carl Thome who gave the Invocation and led the Pledge of Allegiance. After dinner Past President Carl alerted the club to the status of upcoming speakers as well as describing an excellent resource for online make ups. The link has been placed on the left top of our blog so it can be used if required. The Irvine Rotary Club also offers some excellent Rotary training resources at the same site. Our speaker for the evening was Peter J. Dirr, PhD and a member of the board of directors of Medical Missionaries who help the poorest of the poor. Medical Missionaries, a 501(c)(3) company, is a volunteer group of more than 200 doctors, nurses, dentists, and others who work to improve the health of the poorest of the poor in the U.S. and throughout the world. They provide medical care and medical supplies, clothing and food to the areas they serve. One area of focus has been along the Haiti-Dominican Republic border. In Thomassique, Haiti, they have built and support a clinic (hospital), the first medical facility in this region of more than 125,000 people. Doug was warmly welcomed into our club and received a new member membership packet as well as the Rotary pin from President Brady. Guests were introduced by Secretary Gary Moore followed by a very interesting discussion led by Judge Gene Turner on the current happenings with regards to DUI in Collier County. August 2, 2012 Naples Sunset Rotary Me

August 2, 2012 Naples Sunset Rotary Meeting was called to order by President Brady Young and the Innvocation and Pledge of Allegiance followed. President Brady discussed opportunities to network with Egyptian Rotarians and updated all members on the latest local and district happenings. Our speaker was Bob Ayers an above the knee amputee, founder of Miracle Limbs a registered 501(c) (3) organization. This organization provides support to amputees so that they may more easily navigate the physical, psychological and financial hurdles that accompany the experience of losing a limb. Miracle Limbs answers a severe need not fully addressed in the non-profit community. Their mission is to actively seek pre and post surgery patients, providing them full and tailored support in the areas of professional and peer counseling, financial assistance when needed, local support group development, and referrals to credible and well-respected specialists and organizations to support their emotional and physical needs. July 26, 2012 Naples Sunset Rotary Meeting was called to order by Immediate Past President Carl Thome who gave the Invocation and led the Pledge of Allegiance. Following dinner guests were introduced and a quick Sgt-of-Arms presentation was given by Past Assistant Governor Marcus Zillman. The speaker, State Rep. Matt Hudson, was introduced by President Elect Adoni Kokkinos. Rep. Hudson discussed the current healthcare funding situation for Florida and its relationship to ObamaCare legislation. Rep. Hudson chairs Healthcare Funding for the State of Florida and creates the required budgets. Numerous questions were asked from club members and all enjoyed his fine presentation and current happenings updates. The club adjourned at 8:30pm.

The July 12, 2012 Naples Sunset Rotary meeting was called to order by President Brady Young with Pledge of Allegiance and Invocation following. President Brady introduced guests and gave the latest Rotary updates both local, district and International. Following dimnner, President Young introduced Stephen F. Schlueter, District 6960 Governor 2012-2013, Pam Schlueter, Governor Aide, and Robert D. Stoneburner, Assistant Governor 2012-2013. Governor Schlueter discussed his goals for 2012-2013 for the District as well as District and International Projects. He also discussed the District Conference, May 16 - 19, 2013 to be held at the Sarasota Hyatt, Sarasota, Florida. President Young thanked the Governor and staff for attending and the club was adjourned at 8:30 PM.

June 28, 2012 Naples Sunset Rotary Meeting

The June 28, 2012 Naples Sunset Rotary meeting was called to order by President Carl Thome who gave the Invocation and Pledge of Allegiance. Following dinner our Rotary Ambassordial Scholar Johnnie Schuebert discussed his PhD process in New Zealand and his always favorite topic of communication electronics for the third world countries. He displayed a solar powered tablet that could revolutionize the ability to teach and train in Africa. Great stuff!! Following his presentation the 2012-2013 Naples Sunset Rotary Officers and Board of Directors were installed by the Immediate Past President Carl Thome. The slate of incoming officers and board members were as follows: President: Brady Young; President-Elect: Adoni Kokkinos; Secretary: Garry Moore; Foundation Chairman and Immediate Past Assist Governor: Marcus P. Zillman; Membership Chairman: Brady Young; Sgt-at Arms: Pete Shoup; Public Relations: Riley Duncan; Board Member at Large: Herb Buck; Immediate Past President: Carl Thome After the Induction Ceremony the gavel was handed over to Brady Young who praised the new Past President Carl Thome for an excellent two year performance for the Naples Sunset Rotary Club. President Brady also announced that our District Governor for 2012-2013 Stephen F. Schlueter will be visiting our club on the July 11, 2012 meeting. He also reminded members that we would not be meeting on July 5, 2012 due to the July 4th holiday period. Meeting adjourned at 8:30pm

The June 21, 2012 Naples Sunset rotary meeting was called to order by President Carl Thome who gave the Invocation followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. After dinner Carl updated the club by announcing that the following week we will be inducting our new officers and board of directors for 2012-2013 Rotary year which starts July 1, 2012. He also announced that our District Governor for 2012-2013 Stephen F. Schlueter will be visiting our club on the July 11, 2012 meeting. President Carl turned the meeting over to President Nominee Adoni Kokkinos who introduced Gregory Wilkerson, Charge Nurse, Naples Community Hospital North, Cardiac Unit and our speaker who covered the area healthcare and the heart. Excellent presentation and was followed by a lengthy question and answer period. Meeting was adjourned at 8:15 PM.

Prior to dinner being served we inducted our latest member Stephen R. Cere, Financial Planner with Merrill Lynch in Naples. Following the Installation ceremony dinner was served. Our guest speaker was our own member and President Nominee Adonni Kinkkos who gave an excellent presentation on what a "First Responder" must do and the latest technology and equipment required to perform. He demonstrated the latest equipment for heart attack and how to perform the "shock". After Adonni's presentation questions and answers were given by interested club members. President Carl discussed the latest local happenings as well as happenings in the District. Meeting was adjourned at 8:25pm.

The June 7, 2012 Naples Sunset Rotary Meeting was called to order at Pate's Resturant at Ramada Inn in downtown Naples, Florida by President Carl Thome. After Invocation and Pledge of Allegiance President Carl inducted our newest member Daryl Alvaranga, Financial Sales Manager, Citizens Bank; and he was warmly welcomed into our club. Following dinner President Carl introduced our speaker, James C. French, Director, Collier County Growth Management Division, Palnning & Regulation, and Operations & Regulatory Management. James discussed the latest happenings in his Collier County Division and the significant cost cutting and positive results he has been able to accomplish. After his excellent presentation there were numerous question and positive feedback from all club members present. The meeting was adjourned at 8:25pm.

The Sea Salt Naples Sunset Rotary Fund Raiser was an excellent success with providing wine and cheese with a silent auction of many fine items. All were extremely pleased with both the turnout as well as the funds received for our various charities. Excellent job by all! The May 17, 2012 Naples Sunset Rotary Meeting was called to order by Immediate PastPast President (IPP) and Assistant Governor Marcus P. Zillman. George Leamon gave the invocation followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. After dinner our own club member Adonni Kinkkois presented and excellent presentation of Army Insigna and its true meanings. Actual Insigna were displayed and passed around to club members. After his fine presentation there were numerousd questions and answers. The meeting was adjourned by IPP Marcus at 8:15pm.

The May 10, 2012 Naples Sunset Rotary meeting was called to order by President Carl Thome at 6:45PM at Bistro 821. Following the Invocation and Pledge of Allegiance President Carl discussed upcoming events including our May 23rd (Wednesday) fund raiser at SeaSalt on Third. President Carl inducted our newest member Bill Towers, Principal of Precast Keystone in Naples, Florida. We was cordially welcomed by all attending members. Adonni Kinkkos introduced our speaker Matt Chester, Special Agent Bomb Technician with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (F.B.I) with offices in Naples. Matt discussed his 22 years of service with the F.B.I. as well as discussed the latest happenings and current priorities of the Bureau. After the very interesting and informative presentation questions and answers were taken from club members. The club adjourned at 8:20 PM.

The May 3, 2012 Naples Sunset Rotary Meeting was called to order at Bistro 821 at 6:45PM by President Carl Thome. President Carl gave the Invocation followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. After dinner President Carl discussed the latest District and local Rotary happenings including upcoming Area 1 and 2 President's Meeting. Adonni Kinkkos introduced our speaker Bryan Barringer, State Officer with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. Officer Bryan discussed his duties and gave the club an excellent powerpoint presentation on the Commission and it various regulations. After his presentation there was a lengthy question and answer session. President Carl also announced that there will be a board meeting at 5:30pm before next weeks meeting. The club was adjourned at 8:05PM.

April 26, 2012 Naples Sunset Rotary Meeting

The April 26, 2012 Naples Sunset Rotary Meeting was called to order at 6:45PM by President Carl Thome at the Ramada private dining room in downtown Naples, Florida. The Invocation was led by President Carl and followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. After a delightful dinner President Carl gave the club members updates on all local and district activities. Adoni Kokkinos, President Nominee introduced our guest speaker James A Calamari, Deputy Commander and Safety Officer for FL2 DMAT/NDMS. James discussed the various assignments he has participated in and how his emergency group are the first responders at emergency situations and disasters trough the country. After his fine presentation club members were allowed to ask a number of questions. The Naples Sunset Rotary club was adjourned at 8:10pm. The next meeting will be held back at our normal location of Bistro 821 in downtown Naples.

The April 19, 2012 Naples Sunset Rotary Meeting was called to order by President Carl Thome at 6:45pm at Bistro 81 in downtown Naples, Florida; followed the Invocation by President Thome and Pledge of Allegiance. After dinner President Carl introduced guests and visiting Rotarians followed by the Sgt of Arms collecting a number of fines and asking a number of questions and then collecting fines! President Nominee Adoni Kokkinos introduced our speaker Daniel J. Warren, Special Agent Supervisor for the Florida Department of Law Enforcement who discussed in detail his State of Florida government entity and the latest happenings with regards to his department. After his extrememly interesting presentation it was followed by a lengthy question and answer period. The club adjourned at 8:20pm.

The April 12, 2012 Naples Sunset Rotary was called to order by President Carl Thome at 6:30pm. Following the Invocation and Pledge of Allegiance both led by President Carl, dinner was served to a full house with standing room only. The meeting was our annual Raffle drawing to benefit a number of Charities in and around Collier County, Florida. After dinner and Annual Naples Sunset Rotary Raffle started and the tickets were drawn. Winners for the Raffle were announced and a very good time was had by all. Meeting was adjourned at 8:30pm.

March 29, 2012 Naples Sunset Rotary Meeting


The March 29, 2012 Naples Sunset Rotary Meeting was called to order at Bistro 821 by President Carl Thome who gave the Invocation and led the Pledge of Allegiance. Following dinner President Carl gave us updates on the upcoming District 6960 workshop as well as updates on our club fund raiser raffle being held on April 12, 2012. Following a brief discussion President Nominee Adoni Kokkinos introduced our speaker Mark Scarola, Volunteer with the Shy Wolf Sanctuary Education and Experience Center. He presented the truth about wolves, wolfdogs, big cats, foxes, tortoises and prairie dogs through his photographs and personal experience as a volunteer. The Shy Wolf Sanctuary is a Florida Non-Profit 501(c)(3) and is county, state, and federally licensed and inspected. It is 100% volunteer and donor supported. The March 22, 2011 Naples Sunset Rotary meeting was called to order by President Carl Thome who gave the Invocation and led the Pledge of Allegiance. After a Bistro 821 dinner President Carl gave the updates and latest happenings including updates on our upcoming Raffle April 12, 2012. Our speaker for the evening was Jack Tymann who presented a powerful PowerPoint slide show highlighting the latest causes and affects of the economy and what is needed to correct many serious deficiencies. Jack was well received by our members with many questions for his excellent presentation. Meeting was adjourned at 8:10pm

March 15, 2012 Naples Sunset Rotary Meeting


The March 15, 2012 Naples Sunset Rotary meeting was called to order by President Carl Thome at 6:35pm followed with the Invocation and Pledge Allegiance. Following dinner guests were introduced and President Carl discussed the latest district and local happenings. PETS training was discussed as well as upcoming fund raising events for the club. President Nominee Adoni Kokkinos introduced our guest speaker Tiffany R. Kuehner, President and CEO of Naples based Hope for Haiti. At 15 years old, Tiffany’s first trip to Haiti started a passion for the same country to which her grandmother has dedicated her life. Graduating from Georgetown University in Women’s Studies with a specific focus on International Development, Tiffany has spent time working on poverty and gender issues in the U.S., China, Thailand, Tanzania, Uganda, and Haiti. Now, having returned from living in Haiti, Tiffany is based in Naples, Florida, but continues to work closely with Hope for Haiti's programming team, traveling frequently to Les Cayes. In her spare time, Tiffany enjoys photography, dancing, celebrating life with family and friends, and cooking with her husband. Naples is extremely proud of this local organization that has raised millions of dollars for Haiti relief!! Additional information is available by clicking here. The March 1, 2012 Naples Sunset Rotary meeting was called to order by President Carl Thome with the Invocation and Pledge Allegiance. Following dinner President Carl discussed the various happenings with Rotary District 6960 and its upcoming events as well as continued activities with the Naples Sunset Rotary Raffle on April 12, 2012. Additional fund raisers for the club were discussed and the May 24th date was mentioned for the next event after the Raffle. Club was adjourned at 8pm.

February 23, 2012 Naples Sunset Rotary Meeting


The February 23, 2012 Naples Sunset Rotary Meeting was called to order at 6:45pm by President Carl Thome by giving the Invocation and leading the Pledge of Allegiance. After dinner President Carl discussed the latest happenings and addressed some meeting location concerns that will continued to be monitored. President Elect Brady Young was thanked again for allowing the club to use his conference room for our meeting. President Nominee Adoni Kokkinos introduced our speaker Dianne Reed, Public Relations/Marketing Director of Collier Child Care Resources, Inc., who presented the history and current happenings of her non for profit organization whose mission is to support the needs of Collier County's children, families, and early learning professionals by providing high quality education, resources and child care services. February 16, 2012 Naples Sunset Rotary Meeting


The Naples Sunset Rotary Club was called to order at 6:30pm by President Carl Thome who gave the invocation and led the Pledge of Allegiance. After dinner our speaker Russ Luther, Faith Relations Manager of ECHO was introduced by Riley Duncan. Russ discussed their mission of reducing hunger and improving lives worldwide. The Non for Profit organization supplies seeds to many third world countries helping them to create their own farming. Soil testing is done to maximize the performance of seeds prior to shipping them to the third world countries. After his excellent presentation there were many questions from club members. February 9, 2012 Naples Sunset Rotary Meeting


The February 9, 2012 Naples Sunset Rotary Club was called to order by Immediate Past Presidemt and Assistant Governor Marcus Zillman who gave the Invocation and led in the Pledge of Allegiance. After dinner Zillman called for "Good News" from club members and then President Nominee Adoni Kokkinos discussed the revisions to our program schedule and requested all members to bring program recommendations to the next meeting. Member Douglas Digiorno introduced our speaker Jason Kurek, Development Associates of the Boys and Girls Club of Collier County (BGCCC). Jason discussed the history and latest happenings of BGCCC and his personal involvement for the last eight years. He stated that "Our mission is the reason for our existence" and their mission is to enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens. February 2, 2012 Naples Sunset Rotary Meeting


The February 2, 2012 Naples Sunset Rotary Meeting was called to order by President Carl Thome who gave the invocation followed by the pledge of allegiance. Prior to dinner President Carl informed club members of the latest happenings and results of the Board of Directors meeting. Our annual Raffle will be held on April 12, 2012 and the raffle tickets were handed out to all members present. President-Nominee Adoni Kokkinos introduced our speaker for the meeting Maria Wassef, Founder and President of Maria's Birthday Wishes for the Homeless, a 501(c)(3) non-for-profit that celebrates homeless birthdays changing lives 1 cupcake at a time. She discussed the excellent growth her organization had experienced with the goal of servicing Homeless Shelters nationwide. Maria gave an excellent talk and received numerous questions and compliments from our club members. The meeting adjourned at 8:01pm.
