March 31, 2011 Naples Sunset Rotary Meeting and Annual Charity Raffle


The March 31, 2011 Naples Sunset Rotary Club meeting and Annual Charity Raffle were called to order at 7:00pm. President Carl Thome presided and delivered the Invocation and Pledge Allegiance. Following dinner the Annual Charity Raffle started with the winning of the various prizes including the grand price of $7,500. The proceeds remaining will be part of the annual Charity giving by the club. The speaker Roger Jacobson was introduced by President Carl. Roger is the Code and Harbor Master for the City of Naples. His duties consist of Harbor Master, Supervisor of the Beach Patrol Division, and Manager of Code Enforcement. He is responsible for all environmental issues on the water and land, both from an enforcement point of view and a clean up perspective. He has been certified by FEMA as a first Responder for Disasters and is a Licensed Captain. Roger discussed the many happenings at the City of Naples and within his various departments. Numerous questions were asked after his excellent speech. The meeting adjourned at 8:15pm.

March 24, 2011 Naples Sunset Rotary Meeting


The March 24, 2011 Naples Sunset Rotary meeting was called to order at 6:45pm by Carl Thome President. Followed was the Invocation and Pledge of Allegiance. After dinner President Carl discussed the latest Rotary happenings both for the club as well as for the District. George Leamon, Program Chairman introduced the speaker, Randy Merrill. Randy discussed his involvement over many years in the local and state sports happenings and his presentation was well received by the entire club with a number of questions. The club was adjourned at 8:01pm.

March 17, 2011 Naples Sunset Rotary Meeting


The March 17, 2011 Naples Sunset Rotary St. Patrick's Day Meeting was called to order by President Carl Thome at 6:45pm and followed by Invocation and Pledge Allegiance. Following a dinner of corn beef and cabbage, President Carl updated Club members on upcoming District activities. Naples Sunset Rotary Program Chairman and Past President introduced Cpl Ray Erickson of the Collier County Sheriff's Department who discussed CODERED for keeping Citizens informed. Cpl Ray also explained "common sense" thinking when it comes to protecting our property. Many questions were asked during the presentation and all members enjoyed his excellent presentation. President Carl adjourned the meeting at 8:05pm.

March 10, 2011 Naples Sunset Rotary Meeting


The March 10, 2011 Naples Sunset Rotary Meeting was called to order by President Carl Thome at 6:45pm. After the Invocation and Pledge Allegiance dinner was served. President Carl updated the club members on various local and district wide activities. Following introduction of guests President Carl turned the meeting over to Past President George Leamon who introduced the speaker David White of the Collier County Sheriff's Department. Mr. White discussed executive identification theft and the proper utilization of various type of privacy tools including his recommendation to use a micro shredder versus a cross cut shredder. Members asked a number of questions and appreciated his presentation very much. The meeting was adjourned at 8pm.

March 3, 2011 Naples Sunset Rotary Meeting


The March 3, 2011 Naples Sunset Rotary Meeting was called to order by President Carl Thome who gave the invocation and led us in the Pledge of Allegiance. Following dinner Naples Sunset Rotary Sargeant of Arms raised $100.00 from members through various fines and associated happenings at the Club. President Carl Thome discussed a number of upcoming happenings for the Club as well as our March 24th fund raiser. Past President George Leamon introduced our speaker, David Shimmel, CEO of the David Lawrence Center. In this role, he provides leadership and management expertise to the management staff at the direction and discretion of the Board of Directors. Dave came to Collier County in 1984 as the Assistant Director of the David Lawrence Center before being appointed to Chief Executive Officer in 1989. He has a Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology, is certified as a Mental Health Administrator and is licensed as a Mental Health Counselor. He has been working in the field of community mental health for more than 35 years. Throughout his career, Dave has taken an active leadership role in local, national and statewide organizations to insure the affordability and availability of mental health and substance abuse services. David discussed the latest services being offered at the David Lawrence Center and related happenings. Numerous questions were asked after his excellent presentation.
