Our guest speakers were
Mary McDonough and Christian Gehring from the SWFL Regional Human
Trafficking Coalition. Human Trafficking includes forced workers,
indentured servants and prostitutes. In Southwest Florida,
most of the prostitutes are coerced into labor starting from the ages
of 10 to 12 with a ratio of 5 girls to 1 boy and are required to have
sex 15 to 60 times a day. The pimps are both men and women and 17 were
recently busted in our area alone. They work
from hotel rooms many times moving from hotel to hotel. If you notice a
child or teenager with an older person where things just don’t look
right, you are encouraged not to try to intervene but to call The
National Human Trafficking Resource Center Hotline
at 1-888-373-7888 and report what you see. You do not have to give your name.
